If you’ve never heard of glamping before, it’s basically glamorous camping and that it is. It’s camping with more than just a tent. The beautiful couple Linda and Mike down to Grove Lane (Killarney Glamping) invited me down for a two night stay at the end of August. I had been waiting all summer to go and I couldn’t wait. I think it’s such a romantic thing to do and I knew it would be amazing. Killarney Glamping is just 5mins drive from the town itself and is so easy to find. They have 6 bell tents (see below) which sleep two people so perfect for a romantic breakaway.
On arrival we were greeted by Linda and shown to our bell tent. Linda talked us through and showed us the facilities so we knew what to do & where to get things. The bell tent has a heater which heats it up super fast and makes it so cosy. The bed is so comfortable and warm, I actually didn’t want to get out. Linda is on call to answer questions during your stay and she is so helpful. You have your own small kitchen to cook and table/chairs. Your shower & toilet is communal but don’t let that turn you off it’s totally fine and super clean. Cleaners clean them everyday so you have nothing to worry about. The kitchen comes with full cutlery, pans, pots, utensils etc. It’s amazing! We done a big shop on arrival day and stocked up on loads of food. You have a small ice box to store & keep things cold too.
On our first night, Sean cooked me a slap up steak meal with mushroom sauce and potatoes in our little kitchen. It was absolutely delicious. We shared a bottle of champagne and headed to bed. We actually got there quite late that evening so we were tired from the drive. The next day we cooked breakfast and headed into town. We went to the Gap of Dunloe which was so beautiful. We took a horse and cart down to the Gap itself as it’s a bit of a walk. We could barely understand the man talking to us. His name was Derry and was a proper true Kerry man. If you are in the Gap, you have to visit Kate Kearney’s Cottage. They do delicious food and gorgeous Irish coffees. After that we headed for a walk around Killarney town itself. It’s such a quaint little town, I love it. It’s so Irish and if there was ever a place to describe Ireland, it’s there.
We headed back to Grove Lane later that evening and cooked another meal. I really wanted to light a fire so after dinner Sean & I set up camp & took our chairs over. We watched a movie drinking cocktails wrapped in blankets. I have to say it was one of the most romantic things ever. It was so old school but just perfect. The fire pit can be used whilst staying there and it’s a great little addition.
The whole experience was really cool and something totally different. I had camped before but had never been glamping. I’d heard lots of things about it but never went. I cannot recommend doing it enough & I already want to go back. Prices start at €140 and it’s the perfect couples getaway.
