So I wanted to wait until I had three treatments completed before doing a review on my laser hair removal treatment at Therapie Clinic in Malahide. I had wanted to get laser hair removal done for quite a while and figured as I will be travelling quite a lot this year, it would be super handy to get my bikini and underarms done. I’ve had so many of you ask about the treatment and was it sore? I know my initial thoughts were just that and I was a bit nervous going into my first treatment.
I chose Therapie in Malahide as it’s quite near to were I live and work. Therapie have a total of 16 clinics around the country and they are known as the leading laser hair removal and skin specialist in Ireland. They offer the most advanced, medical-grade laser hair removal technology for both men and women. They also do non-surgical procedures designed to help firm and tone your body; freeze fat; eliminate cellulite and enhance your shape. One thing I think it brilliant about Therapie Clinic is that they offer a free initial consultation first to discuss your area of concern. They will go through every step of your treatment in this initial consolation plus you get the meet the therapist that will be looking after you during your treatment too.
As I mentioned, I have had three treatments of laser hair removal done at this stage. I wanted to answer all your questions in one easy blog post giving you my honest answers on what I think of the treatment so far.
So here it goes……
How many treatments do you need to get?
Generally you need a course of 6. It will all depend because laser only works on hair that is in the growth phase of the hair cycle.
As all of your hair is indifferent phases at different times, you need several treatments spread out over a number of weeks to ensure the laser ‘catches’ the each of the hairs in their growth phase at some point.
Is it worth it?
Absolutely worth every cent. I actually couldn’t recommend the treatment enough. I have practically no hair at all after just three treatments. The growth is so little and after each treatment I can see it diminishing more & more.
Is it painful?
There is a slight pinch from the machine however it is very bearable. Rachel makes it very comfortable throughout and she will ask you to let her know immediately if it gets too much during the treatment. You are also given a stress ball which I use every single time.
What is the difference between IPL and Laser?
Lasers are most selective and more effective at absorbing into melanin meaning fewer treatments are required. They penetrate deeper to specifically target hair structures; whereas IPLs typically do not. Lasers have more advanced cooling systems, which means your treatments are made as comfortable as possible for you.
What is the aftercare like?
Your skin will be sensitive so you’re advised to refrain from hot showers/baths, steam rooms, saunas, swimming pool and exercise for 24-48hrs.
- Don’t use sun beds on the area or expose the area to direct sunlight at all while having laser.
- Don’t use perfumed products or thick creams for 48hrs.
- Don’t wear tight clothes like skinny jeans or nylon tights (if having your legs treated) for 48hrs, as they may cause friction and aggravate recently treated skin.
All of the above may cause skin to become irritated in the treated area, it is important that you follow these guidelines to ensure your skin safety. Your therapist will give you further details.
Is it safe for your skin?
Laser is a clinically tested treatment; FDA approved and has undergone rigorous trails to ensure patient safety and efficacy. All of the Therapie Clinic laser therapists are highly trained in performing the treatments; they take client comfort and safety very seriously and use the highest grade medical lasers. Before starting a course of treatment, they give each client a free consultation and patch test with a 3 day waiting period to ensure skin is safe and patch test is clear. If you are having treatments with them and happen to go on holiday throughout your treatment course we will ask that you will have another patch test when you return to ensure your skin is ready to resume treatment without the risk of pigmentation occurring.
How long can you leave in between sessions?
I have been leaving anywhere from 6-7 weeks per session. I think that is a little longer than normal as I have been on holidays a few times during my treatments.
How much does it cost?
Here is their offers for this month below.
I am being looked after by the fabulous Rachel in the clinic in Malahide. The clinic is stunning and I just love everything about it. It’s clean, chic and the staff are amazing. I had my initial consulatation with Roisin who listened to my every need and what I wanted from my treatment. I also had a consultation for Micro-Needling too so I plan on getting this done over the next month too.
Overall so far I am thrilled with the treatment, service and clinic. I will do another post on it once I have completed my course. I have 3 more to go and cannot believe by then I will be hair free. It is actually an amazing feeling.
