Canon Ireland today announced that it is the official camera partner to this year’s Dublin Fashion Festival. Organised by DublinTown, Dublin Fashion Festival runs from 7th – 13th September 2015 and is a week-long celebration that brings a fashion festival fix to the streets of Dublin. With over 250 retailers, restaurants, bars and hotels taking part, Dublin Fashion Festival 2015 puts a sense of fun and theatre into shopping and socialising. The festival celebrates all things fashion, from daily on street catwalk shows and night-time runway spectaculars to workshops, makeup master classes and the Young Designer of the Year / Young Photographer of the Year competitions. Many of the city’s flagship stores will get involved once again this year including Brown Thomas and BT2, Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre, Powerscourt Centre, Arnotts, Ilac Shopping Centre (including Debenhams), Jervis Shopping Centre and Penneys, as well as a host of boutiques and vintage stores across the city.
As part of this partnership, Canon Ireland will sponsor the festival’s first ever young fashion photographer competition. Launching today the ‘Canon Young Fashion Photographer of the Year’ competition is open to all budding photographers from around Ireland and aims to help amateur fashion photographers gain experience and exposure in the fashion industry.
The winning photographer will receive €500 worth of Canon products and a money can’t buy experience at London Fashion Weekend in September. The winner will be flown to London courtesy of Canon Ireland where they will have the chance to photograph a fashion show featuring some of the best known labels and models in the fashion industry. From all the entries received, the judges will shortlist a number of finalists and the winner will be announced at a special event on the 9th September at Bank of Ireland, College Green. This year’s judging panel includes top fashion photographer, Barry McCall, fashion editor of the Irish Independent, Bairbre Power and marketing manager of Canon Ireland, Jonothan Sultan.
Entrants can submit up to five examples of their work via the Dublin Fashion Festival website www.dff.ie. All photographs submitted for judging cannot be published works, and the photographer must not have received payment for it. Closing date for entries is 5pm on Thursday, 20th August 2015. In addition to the competition, Canon Ireland will also be hosting a number of free photography talks over the course of the festival with hints and tips from professional photographers. There will also be a number of promotional offers on Canon products in key retailers throughout the city over the course of the festival.
Commenting on the sponsorship, Jonothan Sultan, marketing manager, Canon Ireland said: “We are delighted to partner with Dublin Fashion Festival as the official camera partner to this fantastic event. Over the course of the festival we have a number of exciting free events planned for consumers to empower people with the skills to take great pictures and to demonstrate the results you can only achieve with a camera. We are also excited to launch the inaugural Canon Fashion Photographer of the Year competition. As Ireland’s number one imaging brand, we are passionate about educating the next generation of young photographers and this competition will provide budding photographers with the opportunity to showcase their work to some of Ireland’s leading industry figures.”
Clyde Carroll Director of the Festival said “Dublin Fashion Festival is excited this year to have Canon Ireland on board as official camera partner. Photography and fashion are intrinsically linked now more than ever so we welcome the opportunity to further champion emerging talent in fashion through this new competition. This added dimension and the extension of the festival to a full week only cements our place as one of the key dates in the Irish fashion calendar.”
So who’s entering? I can’t wait for the festival. It always promises a fun fashion filled week.
See you there 😉
